About The Loft Atelier
Who We Are
A community of passionate creatives who believe that sewing mends the soul.
The Loft Atelier is a makers’ space specializing in sewing in the heart of Lisbon, Portugal.
Whether you are curious about the craft or want to sharpen your sewing skills, we welcome makers at all levels. Our international atelier proudly serves all makers in several languages including English, Portuguese, and German.
How The Loft Atelier Works
The Loft Atelier invites sewists of all levels into a comfortable, creative space to work on projects with guidance as needed.
Time at The Loft Atelier is booked in sessions during the studio’s open hours. Each session = 2 hours.
Open hour sessions are as follows:
- Wednesdays from 10-12h and 19-21h
- Thursdays from 10-12h and 19-21h
- Fridays from 10-12h and 19-21h
Bring a project you’re already working on or choose one from our vast library of patterns, which are available to use free of charge while sewing at The Loft Atelier. The atelier is equipped with all the fabric and notions you might need. Some notions are available for free, others can be purchased for a small cost, or you can bring your own too.
To join us at The Loft Atelier, purchase a Session Card (available for 2, 5, or 10 sessions), select a date for your first session, and come in with your project.

Where to Start?
Don’t know how to thread a machine? Or need a refresher on how to use a sewing machine? Sharpen your skills and meet some spectacular sewists in our Sewing Starter Workshop, a 3.5 hour class.
Love learning 1:1? Book a Private Session with our founder Ariane.
Don’t have a project yet but need some design inspiration? There is no charge to browse our library of patterns during our open hours – just send us an email at hello@theloft-atelier.com to make sure we have space. From tote bags to two-pieces, our Lofties work on all sorts of projects.
Working on a project and hit a snag? We have expert hands to help! Sign up for a sewing session.
- Our space features plenty of natural lighting and use of a wide range of sewing machines, which include: industrial, heavy duty, embroidery, sergers/overlock machines, and domestic sewing machines.
- We supply thread for all of our students. Fabric and additional materials (such as buttons, zippers, elastics, ribbon, and tracing paper) can be purchased for a small fee.
- If you need a little break from your project, we have a mini-kitchen with water, coffee and tea available for all of our guests.

The Loft Team
Founder and pumping heart of our magical makers’ space, Ariane Arand (left) opened the doors of The Loft Atelier in 2017. She learned sewing from a local when she moved to the Azores in 1992. Settling in Lisbon in 2010, she successfully completed a degree in pattern making, sewing & cutting at Modatex Fashion School and obtained the CCP (Certificado de Competências Pedagógicas) as a certified textile trainer. Ariane has also attended courses in corsetery, fashion accessories and quilting. She loves meeting makers of all kinds and hopes to welcome you to the atelier soon!
