What resources are available at The Loft Atelier?
The atelier is equipped with a wide range of tools, materials, and resources! We have several sewing machines including: industrial, heavy duty, sergers/overlock machines, and domestic sewing machines — including some that provide a wide range of embroidery stitches.
We supply thread for all of our students. Fabric and additional materials (such as buttons, zippers, elastics, and ribbons) can be purchased for a small fee. Some supplies are free such as tracing paper.
The Loft Atelier also has a large pattern library and patterns are available to use in the studio at no cost. There is no charge to browse our library of patterns during our open hours – just send us an email at hello@theloft-atelier.com to make sure we have space.
What if I’ve never used a sewing machine before?
Makers of all skill levels are welcome at The Loft Atelier, from beginners to seasoned designers. If you’ve never threaded a machine before or need a refresher, we highly recommend you sign up for our Sewing Starter Workshop (3.5 hours), where you’ll learn all the basics needed to get you started by making a tote bag, which you will get to take home with you!
The Sewing Starter Workshops are limited to 6 students and are usually offered on the first Saturday of every month. If the workshop fills up, then we will schedule an additional workshop later in the month. Dates and times are subject to change. To check when the next one is, click on “Schedule Your Time” on the Sewing Starter Workshop page.

How is time at the Loft Atelier booked? How do Session Cards work?
Time at The Loft Atelier is booked in 2-hour sessions during the studio’s open hours (see “Open hours” listed at the bottom of this page). One session = 2 hours. Sessions must be booked in advance since space is limited – there is a maximum of 5 sewists at each session to foster an intimate community experience.
You can bring a project you’re already working on or browse our vast pattern library for ideas. The atelier is equipped with all the fabric and notions you might need (for a small fee) or you can bring your own.
To book time at The Loft Atelier, first purchase a Session Card on our website, select a date for your first session, and come in with your project. You can book the remaining sessions on your Session Card from the Customer Portal.
If you have any questions before joining us, feel free to reach out at hello@theloft-atelier.com.
Do I have to book a session when I buy a Session Card?
Yes. When you buy a card, you’ll be prompted to select a date for your first session before check-out. You can always reschedule this session later, if needed, but no later than 24 hours before the session.
If you are interested in purchasing a Session Card as a gift for someone, please purchase The Loft Atelier Gift Card, so they can book time with their own account (associated with their own email address).
How do I book my remaining sessions and how many sessions do I have left on my card?
- From the customer portal, click on the “My Bookings” button, which will open the booking system.
- Then, click on “Subscription Bookings” in the left-hand menu. Here you will see a list of current and past cards purchased for The Loft Atelier.
- Under “Booking Status” you can see how many sessions are remaining on your card(s). Example, if it says “1/10” this means that you have used “1” session on your “10 Session Card” and you have 9 sessions remaining to book.
- Click “Manage” next to the card you would like to use to book. You must still have sessions remaining on your Session Card in order to book.
- On the next page, you will see details about your card (or “Subscription”). Click on the “Book Remaining Slots” button in the top right corner.
- Select your card again from the pop-up window.
- Browse the calendar to find a session time that works for you. If a day on the calendar is grey and unclickable, the Loft Atelier is closed on that day or all sessions are booked.

- Then click on the “Book” button on the bottom right-hand corner. You should receive a confirmation email with your booking date and time slot.
